What is Notes?

Lotus Notes is powerful, multi-faceted software for Windows® and Macintosh® computers that helps people work together effectively. With Notes, people can work together regardless of technical, organizational, language, or geographical boundaries. Lotus Notes is designed to perform tasks that normally require many applications to complete. With Lotus Notes, you have the power of the Internet combined with the versatility of Notes databases at your fingertips.

Notes extends the power of messaging and data exchange to bring you all the information that you need, whether that information is from Notes or the Internet:

Calendar
To do lists
Address Book
Internet address lookups
Web browsing
Internet e-mail (IMAP or POP) client software
Internet newsgroup messaging
Secure certificates

Servers and Notes clients

Notes consists of three primary programs: a Domino^TM server, an Internet standard server, and the Notes client.

The Notes client runs on a computer running Windows or Macintosh software. It communicates with Domino servers and Internet servers so you can use, among other things, shared databases, read and send mail, find people and databases, and browse the Web.
The Domino server - a computer running Windows® or UNIX® - provides services to Notes client users and other Domino servers including storage of shared databases and Notes mail routing.
An IMAP or POP3 server - any computer, such as one provided by an Internet Service Provider (ISP), that allows you to read and send e-mail messages from your Notes client.

Why use did we use Lotus Domino?

YOURFUNCTION has been developed in Lotus Domino R5 using the latest in proprietary Lotus language, and the capability to serve documents to a web browser. Domino was used due to its ability to create high-value business solutions that include workflow, content management and high security. With the support of Lotus Notes, TLA are able to provide venues with a customised on-line approach to information and document management within a single environment.
